Mentored by the creator of the original “Lonely Maytag Repairman” advertising campaign in the Walton School of Business at the University of Arkansas, Bill’s career started with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. in 1987. He was part of the team of Assistant Managers who conceptualized third shift receiving, stocking and merchandizing, a standard operational procedure that lives on today at virtually all Wal-Mart locations.
After some brief experience in both hard lines and truck rentals, Bill found his true calling in sales with Centimark Corporation, a nationwide roofing and flooring contractor. Over the course of almost 19 years, Bill developed sales territories in industrial/commercial flooring in New Jersey, the boroughs of New York City and Long Island. Some of his clients included CBS, Belmont Race Track and Tiffany & Co., where his project still remains the surface of the shop where the Lombardi Trophy for every Super Bowl is manufactured. Asked to transfer to St. Louis to build a sales territory from scratch in 1997, in four short years, Bill built a million dollar territory, spanning the states of Missouri, Kansas and Southern Illinois. He forged relationships with clients such as Detroit Diesel, Hiland Dairy, Kansas City Royals, General Tire Co. and Sherwin-Williams. Promoted to the roofing division in 2002, Bill went on to achieve more than six million in sales annually within five years and achieved Top 10 nationwide project sales in 2007. Clients included such notable companies as Watlow Electric, Fairmont Park Race Track, Granite City/US Steel, Con-Agra Foods, Cargill, Inc., Coca-Cola Bottling Co., Drury Hotels and The Wall Street Journal (Highland, IL printing facility). In 2009, the largest roof retrofit project in the St. Louis area took place at Beltservice Corporation in Earth City, one of Bill’s proudest moments in the business.
In 2011, Bill decided to leave industrial/commercial sales and purchase a The UPS Store location in Oakville, MO. Since that time, Bill, his wife and team have grown almost ten revenue streams by an average of over 200 percent. Most significantly, they’ve realized more than 2,000 percent growth in digital printing. An avid student of sales education from masters like Brian Tracy, Jeffrey Gitomer, Harvey Mackay, Todd Cohen and Peter Ebner, Bill believes establishing and maintaining a sales culture across all positions within a small business is the driving force for long-term survival and profitability.
